What is the story behind the name Burger Babie? Who is Burger Babie?Â
Burger Babie was kinda an accidental name for my brand, even down to the spelling. It's actually a Gravy Train song - Burger Baby. At the time I chose it, it was just my personal IG page with zero intentions of it being anything. The spelling Burger Baby was already being used, so I snagged Burger Babie instead. Now it's my entire identity. Who Burger Babie is, is a harder question to answer because it is 100% me, all my eggs have been put into this Easter basket, and it's constantly changing and growing with me as a person. I'm still figuring it out, I think, but I hope when people think of Burger Babie as a whole they just think "It's kinda funny I guess." That's good enough for me.Â

What inspires your art?Â
My art is inspired heavily by vintage children's books, Primitive / folk art, nostalgia, and everyday mundane life things! I think of the best ideas when I'm doing the dishes, stuck in traffic, or walking to the store. I will count those times as inspiring to keep them positive, productive tasks and not annoyances.Â
Growing up, were you always drawn to art?Â
Definitely! I have always been creative and excelled in art classes growing up, but certainly not in a way where I thought I'd ever do anything major with it. I was always making funny comics, drawing, and freaky paintings, but more for friends and less to be on display. I started showing a real passion for it in my early 20s when I stopped drinking and continued pursuing it harder when people also showed interest in what I was doing.Â
How would you describe your style?Â
In spirit, I'd say I think it's kinda like if a small fancy Dutch boy from the 1800s got dropped into a mall in the early 2000s and someone handed him a Spencer's gift card, slapped him across the face, and shoved him inside.Â
How do you get in the mood to create? Music? Nature walk?
Honestly, I'm kinda always in the mood, it's a blessing and a burden. A lot of days I walk from my bed to my little art corner in my apartment and without thinking just go. The less time I have to contemplate on what I wanna make, the better. While I'm working, I like to listen to comedy podcasts or listen to reality TV shows in the background to help keep me working longer, and I like to break up the day with little strolls around the park by my house. If I'm not feeling in the mood to make something, I just don't until I wake up and get the urge. It's hard to force creativity, so I try my best to not.Â

When creating the Impala Collection, where did you start?
I wanted the Impala collection to be simple and bold, like Tattoo Flash. My art features animals a lot, so I figured they would be the perfect little guys to represent me and also something people would see and be familiar with from my previous work. At the time I had just begun using tons of cats, dogs, and bats in my work, so I knew I wanted to add them. The little bunny and deer characters were even more new to me then, but now they make tons of appearances in stuff. Now I basically only draw and paint animals. It's been so fun to watch everything evolve, and having my Impala collab be the mark for the beginning of that change in my work!
Can you tell us about the characters in your designs? Do they have personalities?
I've never given any of them a name or specific traits, but they are all just me and the vessel I choose to voice my lifelong sentence of chronic poor attitude and negativity through. Some are more sweet than others, but not because they are nicer characters, I was probably just feeling more sweet that day.Â
What is your fave quirk about yourself?Â
I will almost always have a snack on me, and it will almost always be the last thing anyone else will want at that time.Â
Lastly, a quote or saying that you say or like that has the message of embracing who you are!Â
The best quote/piece of advice I've ever been told is "Take your work seriously, but not yourself." Every time I feel I need to be reminded of that, it instantly brings me back down to earth.Â
